European Congress on Mental Health and Deafness, Cambridge November 2010: CALL FOR PAPERS
The Call for Papers is now open. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 28th May 2010. The 8th European Congress on Mental Health and Deafness will be held in Cambridge, United Kingdom on 2nd - 5th November 2010. The theme of the Congress, 'Healthy Deaf Minds in Europe', will serve as the agenda for an exciting scientific programme. Providing a forum for addressing mental health issues and developing links between all of the various professionals working in the field of deafness, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors, therapists, nurses, social workers, interpreters, educationists, deaf people, carers and the community. The Congress will take the form of a collection of Symposia each focusing on a specific area of expertise within mental health and deafness including: Deaf Children, Young People and Families; Deaf Adults; Deaf Elders; Forensic Services; Multiple Disabilities; Service Development; Language Deprivation and Communication; Primary Care and Community Services; Mental Health Promotion and Education. Within these Symposia and the Congress programme there will be an opportunity to include papers on a wide range of topics including Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults, Addiction, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Violence, Suicide, Asylum Seekers, Education policy, Audiology, Genetics etc. Full details at www.esmhdcongress2010.org Social Work with Deaf People, Promoting Deaf Mental Wellbeing Conference Last chance to book your place, almost sold out. For Social Workers with Deaf People and related professionals this conference is a great opportunity to meet colleagues, share best practice and learn about the specialist issues relating to providing Social Services for Deaf people. The programme is of relevance to professionals throughout the UK and across the full age spectrum. The programme starts with Social Work and Deaf People - Strategic Challenges and Current Research presented by Professor Alys Young, Professor of Social Work at the University of Manchester followed by workshops and presentations on The Role of an Advocate within Mental Health Settings; Deaf Children and Young People: Promoting positive wellbeing; National Deaf CAMHS Service; Individual Budgets for Deaf people; Pathways to and from Specialist Mental Health Services and the Care Programme Approach; and a Sharing Best Practice Forum to develop a Social Worker with Deaf People 'Tool Kit' to support professionals in their work. Contact Newcastle Deaflink for any information on SMS: 07712 163 366 Email: [email protected] "Learning to do it the Deaf Way": Northumbria University training modules Following a two year pilot project supported by the North East Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Commissioning Unit, two new modules will be offered by Northumbria University from April 2010. 'Supporting D/deaf People With Mental Health Issues' and 'Supporting D/deaf People With Complex Mental Health Needs' will cover a range of topics, aimed at working more effectively with D/deaf people with mental health problems. There are currently too few practitioners with the expertise and experience to support D/deaf people in the North East requiring mental health care. Services have a duty to provide appropriate care and these first of their kind modules are an excellent way of equipping staff with the required knowledge and skills. The modules fulfil knowledge skills frameworks and workforce development needs. In addition, they are free for NHS staff within the Northern SHA area, with a negotiable fee for others. Deaf Parenting Annual Conference, London 7 July 2010 The Resource Centre, 356 Holloway Road, London, N7 6PA. Deaf Parenting UK is delighted to host their next annual conference - Deaf Parenting UK Conference 2010: Are we Equal? The theme of the Conference will focus on three key areas: Health, Social Services and Children's Education. The conference offers an exciting programme of speakers and fun family activities for children of Deaf parents. In addition the conference offers an excellent opportunity to meet with other Deaf parents, families and professionals, in order to work together to ensure Deaf Parents have equal access to Health, Social Services and to their Children’s Education.
